Not one to lose momentum, Rik Fox pushed on back in L.A. performing with the likes of the late Sam Kinison and Ronnie James Dio, among others, and formed his band THUNDERBALL, created in 1987-88, with Rik Fox on bass, vocalist Dale Thompson of the Christian band BRIDE (re-named Kelly Reno), Detroit guitarist Joey Price Mazzola, and Maryland drummer Cecil Freeman. Foxproduced and co-engineered a rocking demo including the Whitesnake-sounding epic ‘Gypsy Brandy’, with the band performing well until the sounds of Seattle grunge began to sound the death-knell for many arena-bands such as THUNDERBALL who eventually dissolved, finding guitarist Joey (Price) Mazzola returning to Detroit to record and perform with acts such as SPONGE andDETROIT COBRAS. THUNDERBALL actually made it onto the big screen of Television Commercials, as "PUTRID RAGE" in a nationally televised Western Union Commercial in 1988. The group, substituting vocalist Mike Cordet for Kelly Reno until they folded in 1989.
